My name is Rachel Gallagher - I’m a Mum and a Scientist, with a passion for creating more liveable cities.
After our daughter was born, my husband and I decided to take some time out to spend with each other, raise our daughter and see Australia.
We returned from our van trip a few months ago, my daughter has just started at a wonderful kindy in West End. I couldn’t think of a better community to raise our family in.
My working life has focused on protecting our natural environment, and improving our built environment. I used to work in environment and planning law.
I also have qualifications in geographical science, urban and environmental planning, and have spent the last three years researching the impacts of new development in West End, Dutton Park, South Brisbane, Highgate Hill and Woolloongabba. My research has been published internationally, and you can read it here and here.
In my spare time I like to go hiking and to read – some my favourite books are Tracks by Robyn Davidson, Mountains of the Mind by Robert MacFarlane and the English Patient by Michael Ondaatje.
