Jackie was elected to Parliament on 28 April 2012 as the member for South Brisbane. She is the Deputy Premier, the Minister for Transport, Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning and Minister for Trade in the Palaszczuk Labor Government.
Jackie has lived in South Brisbane for nearly 40 years and is passionate about her local community. She grew up in East Brisbane, attended St Joseph’s Primary School at Kangaroo Point and her parents owned and ran the fruit shop in Woolloongabba. Together with her husband, Damien, she is now raising her two boys locally in West End.
As the first person from her extended family to go to university, Jackie appreciates the value of a good education. With her dedicated interest and skills base in public policy, Jackie has worked as a public servant in the areas of education and disability policy.
Jackie has been actively involved in community groups, kindergartens and child care centres in her local area and is passionate about protecting the environment for future generations.
Jackie is currently the Deputy Premier, Minister for Transport and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning.
The electorate of South Brisbane covers the inner southern suburbs of Brisbane directly opposite the city's central business district. The electorate encompasses, both South and East Brisbane, Highgate Hill, Kangaroo Point, Woolloongabba, Dutton Park and parts of Greenslopes and Coorparoo. These areas showcase some of the key facets of the city of Brisbane.The inner city suburb of Highgate Hill, which overlooks St Lucia Reach of the Brisbane River, has its main shopping facilities located in Annerley Road near Stanley Street or in West End. The majority of schools for the suburb of Highgate Hill are also found in West End, South Brisbane and Dutton Park. West End and Southbank, are known particularly to both locals and tourists as great locations to eat and shop. The electorate is also home to the popular 'Gabba' Cricket Ground, the Brisbane Exhibition Centre and the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
