Anna Bligh Committed to SEQ Water Security.

Water Tap
Premier Anna Bligh has renewed her Government’s commitment to water security for South East Queensland.

Already the government’s water grid - connecting the region’s major dams - approval of the Wyalong dam, and desalination and purified recycled water plants are all set to provide South East Queenslanders with water security now and well into the future.

Anna has announced that major pro-active action will be taken to protect threatened fish, turtle and frog species living in the Mary River area before Traveston Crossing Dam is built.

The State's Coordinator General has raised concerns about the impact of the dam on threatened species - including the Australian lungfish, the Mary River cod, the Mary River turtle and the southern barred frog – and recommended that a number of mitigation measures be brought forward.

Queensland Water Infrastructure advises this mitigation work can be undertaken, but will delay the dam’s construction schedule – potentially by several years.
Anna's Government remains committed to Traveston Crossing Dam and will do everything in its power to see it built.
Bringing the mitigation measures forward means the project has a much greater chance of being approved by both the Coordinator General and the ultimately the Federal Government, which has the final say.

It is clear that only Premier Bligh's Labor team is committed to securing water security for South East Queensland, the LNP continues to play politics with the issue, they would be a risk to our water security.
