Desley Scott - State Member for Woodridge

Desley was elected to State Parliament in 2001.

Prior to entering Parliament, she served the people of Woodridge in the role of Electorate Officer for a period of 16 years.

Desley had previously spent 17 years raising her 3 sons and supporting her husband Lee, a tertiary level Physics/Maths Lecturer. During this time, she was involved with many organisations in many capacities as a volunteer. Her earlier working life was as a trained Dental Assistant in both Toowoomba and Melbourne, with her certificate gained in Victoria.

Desley has forged strong links with the many departments and services within the local area. She has a particular passion for early childhood development and has steered the development of a Volunteer Mentoring Program for Young Parents in the area. She has also chaired the Griffith University Logan Campus Development Advisory Group since its inception and takes a keen interest in all levels of education and training. She is proud of the harmonious, vibrant multi-cultural community she represents.

She is Patron/Vice Patron/Patroness to a diverse range of organisations such as the Logan City Theatre Company, Citizens' Auxilliary of the RSL, 40+ Club of Crestmead, The Australian Budgerigar Society, Crestmead Artists' Association, The German Shepherd Dog Club of Qld, as well as being a Member of many clubs and organisations such as Zonta, Soroptimists, Lions, Kingston East Neighbourhood Group, Koongoora Womens' Shelter, Association of Women Educators, Logan Womens' Health & Wellbeing Centre.

Desley's personal time is mostly devoted to family, with grandchildren high on the list, church and community activities, catching up with friends (all too infrequently). She enjoys bush walking, driving holidays, mountains and beach, music, particularly that of her 3 professional musician sons, swimming, reading, gardening and relaxing at home, and hopes one day to have time for oil painting with our local artists' group.
