
Desley has been Member for Cairns since her election in 1998.
Desley was appointed as Minister for Local Government and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships following the 2009 election.
Desley was formerly Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry, Child Safety, Minister for Environment, Local Government, Planning and Women.
Desley's background is as a senior
Psychologist in her own practice, Desley Boyle and Associates. She also holds a masters degree in business administration and psychology.
Desley has a long history of involvement in the Cairns community. From 1988 to 1994 she was on the Cairns City Council, serving for two years as deputy mayor.
She has been President of FNQ Employment, chairperson of FNQ Family Resource Service and spokesperson for FNQ Friends of the ABC.
Desley has also been a board member of many community and business organisations such as the Northern Australia Development Council and Lifeline FNQ. She holds membership in the Australian Institute of Management and the Cairns Chamber of Commerce, along with many other organisations.
Desley has three children and two grandchildren. Her interests include politics, theatre, film and contemporary music.
